Communications Officer
Charles Stewart Mott Foundation
As a lifelong Genesee County resident, Sarah (Schuch) Elkins amplifies Flint’s vibrancy and spirit in her role as a communications officer for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
After earning her journalism degree from Central Michigan University, Elkins spent the first five years of her professional career as a reporter for The Flint Journal. She then accepted a position with Kettering University, where she eventually attained the role of director of communications. In 2019, she accepted her current position at the Mott Foundation.
Her tireless efforts in sharing the heartbeat of the city through social media have not only kept the community informed but have also fostered a sense of unity and pride among its residents. Whether through highlighting local events, showcasing the achievements of community members, or shedding light on important issues, she is always at the forefront, ensuring the city’s stories are heard far and wide.
In addition to her professional endeavors, she is a loyal volunteer at local events and supports many community initiatives. She has served on the board of directors at Crossover Outreach for six years and was instrumental in helping them reach their goal to be fully funded for their new building. In addition, she organized the Flint Community Cookout once a month for many years to better reach the homeless, college students, residents, and those in all different walks of life. From those interactions, she worked to create the Flint Stories Project. She also volunteers her time at Genesee County Animal Control.
