Genesee County Clerk/Register of Deeds Domonique Clemons is dedicated to driving positive change through public service.
Prior to accepting his appointment as county clerk/register of deeds in December 2022, the Flint native was elected in 2020 to serve on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners representing portions of Flint and Flint Township. He was elected as the board’s chairperson and established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission, promoted community policing, facilitated the acquisition of a new county administration building, and ensured the equitable distribution of American Rescue Plan Act funds.
His career has also included roles such as director of government affairs for the Flint & Genesee Group, director of DEI for the Michigan House of Representatives, legislative director for State Rep. Alex Garza, strategy assistant for the Michigan College Access Network, and communications specialist in the Michigan Senate.
As county clerk/register of deeds, Clemons manages the county’s vital, legal, and property records while serving as its chief election official. He is focused on streamlining office processes, ensuring secure elections, and making services more accessible to all residents.
Beyond his professional duties, he volunteers on the YMCA Camp Copneconic Committee, GLPA-LEAD Advisory Council, Ananich Legacy Foundation, Rotary Club of Flint Board of Directors, Michigan Electronic Recording Commission, and Michigan Manufactured Housing Commission.
Clemons graduated from Flint Southwestern High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in political management from George Washington University.
