The POWER Initiative
Ashnee V. Young is a community organizer working to encourage positive collaboration and dynamic implementation throughout Flint, Genesee County and the state of Michigan. Some of Young’s experience includes working as an assistant director for the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, special events coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County and homeless outreach coordinator for the Genesee County Continuum of Care.
She has over a decade of experience serving youth, adults, families and communities in various capacities. Young has engaged as a national trainer for the Children’s Defense Fund, technology chair of the Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., participant in the Flint & Genesee Group’s Lead Now program and many other community-driven opportunities.
She currently serves as a strategy consultant with The POWER Initiative, a social profit agency that engages in programs, services, projects and relationships that support communities to identify gaps and facilitate solutions to real-life experiences. She is also the education and outreach coordinator for Legal Services of Eastern Michigan and program director of the Flint Freedom Schools Collaborative. She considers herself to be a lifelong learner and is often in search of opportunities to support those who seek to uplift others.
Her other community activities including serving as committee chair for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Flint Alumnae Chapter, board president of Gottagetit, consultant for the Flint & Genesee Literacy Network, YWCA board member, Flint Freedom Schools Collaborative director and Legal Services of Eastern Michigan consultant.
