Global Attraction Representative
Michigan Economic Development Corporation
Born and raised on Flint’s Southside, Dylan Luna always paid attention when his mom told him that a good education is the golden ticket out of poverty. He followed her advice, going on to earn a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Michigan State University, a master’s in urban education from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint.
Luna now serves as a global attraction representative for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the state’s marketing arm and lead advocate for business development, job awareness, and community development. He believes that a robust economy is vital to a strong education system that provides all students the chance to succeed in school and life.
Luna began his career as a high school teacher on the South Side of Chicago. He later taught Spanish in Detroit before returning home to Flint to teach a range of subjects in elementary school, believing it important to be on the ground floor in the classroom before going on to work in educational policy. He then worked with state legislators and other key stakeholders advocating for educational equity, fair funding, and common-sense solutions to improve student opportunity. His public policy and advocacy work includes serving as an organizer for multiple political campaigns, a government relations specialist for a national education management company, and as an active member of Leadership for Educational Equity.
Luna often volunteers at Martus Luna Food Pantry and has coached track and cross country in Flint Community Schools. He is board treasurer for 100K Ideas, member of the Hurley Health Advisory Council, and member of the boards of directors for the Friends of the Alley, International Center of Greater Flint, and Flint Community Schools.
