Promotions, New Hires and Recognition
John K. Butler has been elected to the board of trustees of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Butler has over 30 years of professional experience in the investment sector, including leadership roles at Mairs and Power Inc. and other firms in Minnesota. As a great-grandson of founder C.S. Mott, Butler is the fifth family member currently serving on the board.
Catholic Charities Shiawassee & Genesee Counties has welcomed Sandra Jones, David Kelley, and Luci Kirk as its newest board members.
Communities First, Inc. has named Phillip Walker II as a new program associate for the organization. In this role, he is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating enriching programs and activities that help families thrive.
The Community Foundation of Greater Flint has selected Dan Kildee as its next president and CEO. Kildee, a soon-to-be former U.S. Representative and president and CEO of the Center for Community Progress, was selected given his significant leadership roles in government and non-profit sectors. Notably, he played a pivotal role in founding the Genesee County Land Bank, where he served as chairperson and CEO from 2002 to 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University and was a Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 2005.
The Community Foundation of Greater Flint has also appointed Dr. Omari Young to their Board of Trustees. Young is a faculty physician with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Young also serves as program director for the Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology and assistant professor at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
The Flint & Genesee Group has welcomed Sharita Galloway as their new executive director of human resources. Previously, Galloway was with Michigan State University’s human resources department for 10 years and has a Master of Science in human resources Management from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Michigan-Flint.
La’Asia Johnson has been named the new co-chair of the Flint & Genesee Chamber’s African American Advisory Committee. Johnson is the owner of Elle Jae Essentials in Flint.
The Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint has added board-certified oncologist Dr. Jeffrey Hotaling to their staff. Hotaling completed his fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction at Thomas Jefferson University in Pennsylvania.
Kate Stockrahm has joined the East Village Magazine as its new editor. Stockrahm was most recently with Flint Beat and takes over for former editor Tom Travis.
Dr. Nida Khalid, who practices obstetrics and gynecology, has joined the staff of McLaren Flint. Khalid completed her residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint and holds a medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College in Pakistan.
The McLaren Proton Therapy Center has welcomed board-certified Radiation Oncologist Dr. Moaaz Soliman to their team. Soliman completed his residency at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and holds a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor.
McDunnough, Inc. has welcomed Teri Price to their team as a business development manager. Price had previously worked as a sales manager with Closets by Design.
Trevor Keller has joined Miller Industries, LLC as a full-time software engineer. Keller is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint and had previously interned with Miller’s Flex Air division.
Rowe Engineering has welcomed two new employees. Angel L. Bell has been hired as a graduate planner and Katherine M. Johnson as an accounting clerk.
The State Bank has promoted Thomas Hufton II to senior vice president and chief trust and wealth management officer. Hufton has been with the State Bank for 30 years, primarily serving clients in trust and wealth management.
Sue Osborn, mayor of Fenton, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Federal Advocacy Committee. As a member of the committee, Osborn will play an important role in shaping the NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of the nation’s cities, towns, and villages locally, and on a federal level.

Dort Financial Credit Union has acquired Florida’s Flagler Bank. This acquisition expands Dort Financial Credit Union’s reach to two states and 15 locations with assets over $2 billion. “This is a big step in Dort Financial’s growth strategy, allowing us to better serve our members who spend winters in Florida,” said Dort’s President and CEO Brian Waldron.

The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association has presented Bill Wentworth, Jr. with the group’s Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes Michigan restaurant and hospitality industry workers who provide their leadership, commitment, and vision. Wentworth, Jr. is vice president of Miller Apple, which owns and operates 23 Applebee’s franchises and two Sonic drive-ins across the state of Michigan.
Genisys Credit Union has received the Crystal Performance Award from Raddon Financial Group, a Fiserv Company. This honor recognizes Genisys in the top 2-3% of more than 500 credit unions nationwide. This recognition looks beyond just the business they do in the community but their place as a leader in the industry of financial services as well.

To honor the memory of Bryant “BB” Nolden, the Mass Transportation Authority dedicated a bus shelter in his name and unveiled a new wrap for one of their buses. The shelter is located outside of Berston Field House, a community center in Flint where Nolden was the longtime director.
Mott Community College has been granted $340,000 from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to work with the Diploma Equity Project (DEP) to help increase degree and certificate completion for students. The DEP is a Michigan nonprofit with a mission to eliminate the gap in college degree completion based on income, race, age, and family education.
The University of Michigan-Flint’s Hagerman Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation has received the 2024 Excellence in Co-Curricular Innovation Award from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. This is in recognition of their innovative programs and impact in entrepreneurship.
On Feb. 16, WNEM-TV 5 celebrated the 70th anniversary of its first broadcast. In 1954, the station’s studio was located in Bishop International Airport. Today, the station maintains studios on North Franklin Street in downtown Saginaw, with a second newsroom in downtown Flint.
