Family Mobility Coordinator
Communities First, Inc.
Ashley Strozier has been serving Genesee County children and their families for over a decade, focusing on low-to-moderate income households facing the greatest barriers to quality of life.
At Communities First, Inc., Strozier connects youth and their families to resources and referrals to mission-aligned partners. In 2023 alone, she served more than 400 children and their families. In her role, she helps families understand the language listed in their students’ individualized education programs (IEPs), which are legal documents developed for children who need additional support, and how the process works. She also goes above and beyond to make the holidays special for area families. Last year, she coordinated, secured, and delivered nearly 150 Thanksgiving meals and 75 holiday gifts for families.
A resident of Flint, Strozier is the board chairwoman for the Genesee Intermediate School District Head Start Policy Council; vice chairwoman of Young, Gifted & Green’s board of directors; and member of the Flint Registry’s Membership Advisory Council. Her husband is the pastor of Tabernacle M.B. Church in Saginaw, where she serves as the first lady and community outreach liaison.
Strozier previously worked as the family engagement facilitator for Flint Community Schools and remains involved with the district, where she collaborates with area schools to provide an extra layer of support and services to families and school communities. After learning that the washer and dryer in Holmes STEM Middle School’s Community Cares Center needed repairs, she worked with the community school director and current principal to upgrade the appliances with funding raised by community supporters and Communities First, Inc. Once the upgrades are complete, Strozier will help coordinate a grand reopening of the space later this year.
