Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Business Partner
Financial Plus Credit Union
As Financial Plus Credit Union’s first Diversity, Equity & Inclusion business partner, Allen Williams is already making his mark.
A certified diversity professional through the National Diversity Council, Williams successfully created and implemented a DEI strategy and organized a DEI Council at the credit union and serves as the group’s chair. One of his initiatives is called Billboard of Inclusion, a contest that awards small, minority-owned businesses with a free billboard advertisement for four weeks. Financial Plus designs, orders, and pays for the billboard in hopes of promoting growth, exposure, and equity.
Williams has worked with the City of Flint to help close the gap of unbanked city residents and educating young people on financial literacy. He also secured a partnership with Consumers Energy’s Lending a Hand program to provide affordable energy and upgrades to qualified low-income customers; Consumers covers 70% of the cost with the remainder financed through Financial Plus at an affordable rate. Williams also has partnered with the Michigan School of the Deaf to provide information sessions on banking and financial literacy.
Williams is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity; the Flint & Genesee Chamber African American Advisory Committee; Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint; Greater Flint Taskforce on Racial and Social Equity; Business, Banking and Workforce Subcommittee; Michigan Credit Union League’s FUEL MI Young Professionals; and Flint & Genesee Young Professionals.
He is currently working toward his bachelor’s degree in human resources and organizational behavior from University of Michigan-Flint.
